Ashleigh & Pudsey perform 'Me and My Dog' in Panto

Ashleigh and Pudsey perform to the Ronnie Harwood written "Me and My Dog"Ashleigh Butler of 'Ashleigh & Pudsey', 2012 winners of TV show 'Britain's Got Talent', performed to Ronnie Harwood's "Me and My Dog" during the performances of the Christmas pantomime 'Dick Whittington' at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking, Surrey. The pantomime, which ran from 7th December until 6th January 2013, featured the talented dog trick act after the pair had performed in November at the Royal Variety Performance in the presence of the Queen.

Ronnie wrote the song about his own dog, Sky, a cross breed German Shepherd / Border Collie. There's a nice little story of how Ashleigh came to perform to her version of the song in pantomime.

"I wrote the song 'Me and My Dog' about my Sky," Ronnie explains. "I made the demo at Ed's (Edsongs Studio) in Hendon; I work all my demos there. It's strange that I wrote the song a year before Ashleigh and Pudsey won BGT." I asked Ronnie how the song came to be used, how they were introduced to it.
"Well one day, while I was walking my dog Sky, this dog was barking over the fence, a cute little dog. Then a lady peeped over the fence and I said that her dog had a loud bark for a wee one. I had not met the lady before; she had only just moved in. We talked about our dogs and that's when she told me that her grand daughter, Ashleigh, and dog Pudsey had won Britain's Got Talent." The nice lady was Ashleigh's grandmother, Pearl. What were the chances of that meeting, you may well ask!
"I then asked would she like a CD of my song, 'Me and My Dog' and I gave her a copy," Ronnie continued. "She passed it on to Penny, Ashleigh's mother, who looks after her. They liked the song very much and told me that a few months later they would be in the Dick Whittington pantomime in Woking and they would like to use it in the show. I was asked and I said it was a good idea. I never got to see the show but was told it went really well."
Ashleigh recorded the track for use in the show and the pantomime ran for 6 weeks. We can now look forward to 'Pudsey: The Movie' - the film is due to be released around the Christmas of 2013. Could 'Me and My Dog' feature in the movie? We'll have to wait and see!
